High profile sustainable workplace specialist Lara Conaway is taking to the stage at a special event in Surrey aimed at helping businesses go greener and at the same time cut costs.
Lara will be offering advice on creating an energy-saving ‘green office' at the Epsom Energy Management Seminar, along with Steven Fowler of Business Link and Steve Davies of Epsom and Ewell Borough Council.
Organised by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, Surrey Chambers of Commerce and the Epsom and Ewell Business Partnership, the event takes place on Tuesday, March 10, from 6.30pm at Epsom Town Hall.
As sustainability manager at office transformation company Morgan Lovell, Lara is a national expert on the subject of cost-effective green workplaces.
Recently she was invited to speak at the major sustainability conference Ecobuild - held at London Earls Court - alongside others including Michael Heseltine, Alastair Campbell, Michael Portillo, Housing Minister Margaret Beckett and the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
At the Epsom event, Lara's talk, entitled ‘Expensive Green Offices and How To Avoid Them,' will draw on her own experiences gained as an influential member of the Morgan Lovell team behind the award-winning green refurbishment of the company's 1960s Soho headquarters.
The office, located in the type of building that would have previously been considered an environmental write-off, went on to secure a host of national accolades including The Green Business Awards.
It was also the highest scoring office of its type in the UK under the BREEAM assessment - which measures environmental performance.
Lara said: "The aims of the seminar at Epsom are to share good practice, provide businesses with examples of how they can achieve substantial cost savings through effective energy management and signpost information on available grants."
To find out more about the event please contact Andy Willmott at Surrey Chambers of Commerce on 01372 732568 or by email andy.willmott@surrey-chambers.co.uk
As ward member for Hersham South, Lara is also supporting neighbouring Epsom and Ewell Borough Council with this energy-saving initiative as a member of the Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee within Elmbridge Borough Council.
For the future, her aim is to hold another event within the Elmbridge Borough to help more businesses save money and energy.
