How to Take Your Business to #1

Do you remember the saying All for one and one for All? That's such a powerful saying but just imagine if business was like that! There would be no competitors you could just get on your phone to one of your competitors and say: 'Hey Mr Microsoft you made a lot of money in that market good on.

Do you remember the saying All for one and one for All? That's such a powerful saying but just imagine if business was like that!

There would be no competitors you could just get on your phone to one of your competitors and say:

'Hey Mr Microsoft you made a lot of money in that market good on you now we're launching so and so, and there's no need for your company to enter this niche we've got it covered'

If business was exactly like this could you imagine how dead boring it would be, we wouldn't have half of the stuff and technology that we have, and it would be very mundane.

No ones saying you have to have a Pepsi and Coca Cola fiasco where some employees were going to sell Pepsi, Coca Cola's trade secrets or get your daughter to date the director that'll be handy alright, but that's very shallow.

Being competitive drives the marketplace and what do you think it takes to be No 1?

You may agree or disagree but it's doubly harder to stay No 1 Heck it's hard for many businesses to stay afloat, typical brick and mortar or online business.

Let's go back to that question: What does it take to be No.1? Would an unfair advantage help?

What first must be understood is what you really want to achieve from your business.

Also what must be remembered is a business does not have to be No.1 to make money it only needs to stay competitive; so long as you stay competitive the ability to be No.1 is immense.

I get these questions asked to me quite often, how do you stay competitive, especially if they have more capital?

It's quite a simple notion ANSWER: You keep your eyes open because your opportunity to exploit will come.

Picture this event that happened, I heard about this at my stay at one of London's classy, plush hotels where there was a wine and dine event put on by a top financial firm in the City.

In a discussion around the table we were talking about an engineering company who dealt with project management for railways, buildings, apartments and etc, they also had many contracts.

This certain company were renowned in their field, were illustrating their new architecture model for their newest project at a conference.

There was a gentleman amongst the crowd who again and again asked technical questions, questions on raw material being used, on renewable energy and the likes.

The speaker was fairly straight forward with his answers not going into to much detail on technicality.

One thing he did say was the materials they used for the infrastructure of these buildings were the best because it was a certain type of steel and etc.

At the close of the conference the guy from the crowd approached one of the senior personnel heading the project, and began speaking about composition of steel and different types, elaborating on what ones good for what certain building, where good prices for steel could be obtained and new systems for renewable energy.

The senior personnel assumed he was being sold too and shrugged him off like he knew absolutely nothing on the subject.

Approximately three months on, the same guy who was asking all the questions at the conference started his business in engineering, and within a year and a half he took over the contracts and nearly put the company out of business.

That will teach you next time to never undermine anyone.
